Description

Unable to realize what happened to their valiant friend, the remaining three remained caught in the oblivious student's huge shoe. It never occurred to them how lucky they were to be safely stowed, instead of enduring the fatal hardship Tim met.

Each step the giant took caused significant discomfort. It was muffled, to be sure, but hardly enough as the foot lifted and crashed down again. Jan fell unconscious , as he alone was pressed face first into the filthy cotton sock. Philip and Michael fared slightly better, both caught at an angle to allow them proper, albeit rancid, breathing room. This torture went on forever it seemed. A queasy sensation of lifting, flying, followed by a bone jarring boom. It was traumatizing.

The bus halted before the gymnasium, situated only 10 minutes ride from the hostel. Both the young students disembarked and headed into the building, blissfully unaware of the drama in one of their sneakers.

Philip whimpered when the thundering sensations of walking resumed. Michael below him failed to hear, too busy with his own suffering while Jan below him was compacted in a hysteric mess of tears and vomit. Suddenly, the walking ceased once more and the tiny men were unprepared when the massive foot began pulling out of the sneaker. The ride was terrifying, but filled with the delight of considerably fresher air that hit them like with cold gusts. Philip and Michael released the rope-sized thread, grabbing the thick moist sock, while Jan found the rope torn from his hands and managed to grab hold of the sock before tumbling back down to the hellish sneaker below.

Pulling his foot free from his shoe, the gigantic student slammed his socked foot upon the ground without thought. The bug-sized escapees were thrown loose by the jarring impact, falling from the sheer cotton cliff to the hard tile below.

Michael looked up to see the mega-sized foot loom before him. Next to him, Philip gasped at the same sight, pushing backwards to avoid being crushed beneath the shifting mass. The giant stood, bearing all his unimaginable weight upon the floor, shoved his dangerous Adidas beneath the bench and stomped away. The three tiny men watched, only able to see his huge feet and towering legs, feeling each impact of his large feet upon the tile floor. Other giant feet stomped past, sending powerful vibrations through the floor as if to warn anything tiny of their might and capricious power.

The last giant vanished, and the shrunken escapees found themselves stranded in a large room lined with towering lockers, filthy tile floor, and populated with gym bags and many other discarded footwear.

Philip just sucked in breath after breath, completely ignoring the rather rank stench permeating the room. It was worlds better than inside the colossal student's Adidas. All of them felt better with the absence of any giants. It was a reprieve they needed badly. Turning back, Philip helped Michael bring Jan back to his feet. The poor man was delirious from the tumultuous ride here. Coated in dried vomit, sweat, and bruised, he was worse off than both of them combined.

It was decided they should figure a course of action before the giants returned. The closest exit from the filthy locker room was a looming hallway that stretched beyond comprehension. A few giants could be seen crossing the hall, but none headed their way. It was their only choice besides waiting to be crushed, so they began the slow venture across each tile, stumbling over every incline of grout and onto the next stretch of tile. The sheer size of everything was fascinating. Doors towered flanked them, towering high above like gateways to some godly dimension. The ceiling lights closely resembled electric suns high above, casting their yellowish light upon the vast tiled landscape.

Fate dealt another hand of misfortune, and the tiny men found themselves struggling to keep balance as the ground beneath them shuddered. Huge students lumbered back into the locker room, uncaring of what ended up beneath their powerful feet. Jan screamed at the sight, struggling fiercely and throwing both Michael and Philip to the ground before bolting back in the direction of the lockers.

His eyes bulged with complete hysterics as he shouted obscenities at the towering figures around him, waving his tiny arms. A loud crash threw Jan roughly, and he looked over to see a huge sneaker lifting off the grimy tiles and soaring overhead. The white tread was rather clean, save for tiny bits of dirt, pebbles, and clumps of grime caught between tread. Jan cared not for such cleanliness, instead devolving into screams of contempt, anger, and fury at the merciless expanse of deadly rubber above him. Philip and Michael watched with abject horror as the mountain of footwear crashed down upon Jan's speck of a body with a dull thud. The giant continued, lifting his foot for another step to reveal but a speck of bloody red against the enormity of his white sole.

"Oh, god no!" Michael cried. Philip grabbed him and began running from the devastating scene. Jan was a fool, but he would not allow the same to happen to them!

As always, Fate had other plans. Just ahead of them swung one massive door, pulling inwards which spared them from the cascade of break-neck winds. They watched a giant exit, two huge sneakered feet crashing heavily upon the hard ground. High above the giant thoughtlessly looked forward, having no reason to look downwards as he walked.

Determined, the last two of the ten survivors looked for an escape as the towering young man approached. But, Michael tripped, gasping, and just as Philip pulled him back up they were both nearly knocked over as the giant stomped closer. Another step, and he was right on them, landing a massive Vans sneaker on the tiles behind. Semi-darkness enveloped them, and Philip pointed upwards with a scream. Just like Jan, Peter, Marvin, Jack, Hendrik, Hannes, and Leon, they were looking at an impossibly huge sole of a sneaker poised high above them in mid-step. Philip turned white as his eyes sparked with recognition at the waffle-tread sole and the dirt-filled circular Vans logo. He saw the tiny broken body, now coated in grime and dirt, but still recognizable as the devastated remains of their friend Leon. Other tiny lives were mixed around as well, small bits of carapace and antennae reduced to segments without notice as the giant went about his day.

Michael remained a wild ball of screaming terror, while Philip just stared in disbelief. How could Fate be so cruel? These giant students had no inkling of the devastation they caused, and continued to wreak upon the tiny world at their feet. The air rushed, breaking from the massive shoe as it crashed down on the floor with a reverberating quake.
